Brock's thoughts about book
I think you can learn a lot about reading this book and learning about David Robinson's dedication to school, to his country, and to sports. David Robinson is a good role model to follow.
David Robinson
David Robinson is a very smart and athletic person. David’s parents wanted their kids to excel in school work. When David was in high school he wasn’t good at basketball at all. A sport David was good at was gymnastics but being tall isn’t good for gymnastics. David always wanted to be like his father so David went to the U. S. Naval Academy. When David went to the academy he was 6’ 7”. The navy academy had a height limit of 6’ 8”. The coach at Navy saw that David was very tall and would help them in basketball a lot. David wasn’t really interested in basketball so during practice David’s mind would float. Coach decided that he would go over and see what David did to entertain himself. While at David’s house the coach saw David put together a T. V. David was also a good pianist. David played very good on the basketball court when he put his mind to it. In the first year at Navy he put up some impressive numbers but the next three years he led NCAA in shot blocking. David also led Navy to the NCAA tournament in more than a quarter of a century. NBA teams were looking at David especially San Antonio, but David still had to serve two years for the Navy. While out on duty David got really rusty. Once off duty people started to think if David Robinson was really that good because he was so rusty at basketball. The San Antonio Spurs still thought he was good. San Antonio drafted him in the first round. The first year everybody thought David Robinson was really good even Magic Johnson said”Some rookies are never really rookies.” David was really good that year and for his career. David won two NBA titles, was in the All-Star game 10 times, and MVP once. David had a great career.
